The post that got kaboshed

Well, I just finished a commission piece - for a publisher actually, except I just found out that it's something that I can't post ... or talk about ... or discuss... so... nevermind. sigh.

Gen13 #16 - Jan 08

Hi there... Sorry about the long absence, but I was eyeball deep in helping out on deadline challenged Gen 13. As a reward(?) the let me draw the entire issue 16 - whether or not that's a good thing, I'll let you all decide after reading it. Another cool part of it was I got Jon Mills as an inker. I've worked and known him since our school days back in 1998. He's an incredibly talented artist in his own right and an even more talented inker. I have no doubt, he'll bring my stuff to a new level that even I didn't think was possible. It was a lot of fun - and I thank Ben Abernathy for that awesome opportunity. I'm going to take a week off for Thanksgiving and then back to commissions. So- weet!!

Why no art?

Sorry for the LONG delay in posting new commissions. It's been a long couple of months (April vacation, May visit my sister in Cali, June conventions) and now I'm up to my eyeballs in helping work for Gen 13. At the moment, it's mostly work that is trying to help the team stay on deadline due to some late issues here and there. So I'm either staying up really late trying to get work done quickly, or spending days recooping from those consecutive overnighters. I see it happening for a little while longer. It's both good and bad - I love the work and the team, but getting some work without the tumultuous deadline would be nice. But I guess everyone's gotta earn their stripes. I plod on!

Pixar's Cars Movie hidden easter egg - the Apple Car

I know, I know, not a comic related post (again), but with my son getting into Pixar's Cars lately, I just found this so while I know this has been posted on already, but it's just too cool to pass up. If they ever release a die cast version of this car, you know I'll be first in line to buy 12 of them. Wish they would already - you know it'd be a monster hit!

This was a first for me...

This was my first attempt at PITT. I've drawn the Hulk before (rather unsuccessfully). My Hulks usually come out like regular superheros on steroids - and somewhat lanky, so I'm pretty pleased with the way this PITT came out. He doesn't look at all like an enlarged Captain America on juice. I must say tho, I have to give Dale Keown some serious kudos for being able to handle oversized characters so well. I never realized how difficult it was to maintain bulkiness without skewing the anatomy.

Girls Night Out

This was supposed to be a convention commission, but I ran out of time last year at the Heroes Convention in Charlotte, NC back in 2006 and took it home to finish it. Unfortunately, due to books, baby births, weddings, holidays, and just about every other conceivable life event, it took me a good year to finish. So as a thanks for being so patient, I upgraded his commission from am 8x11 to an 11x17. Everyone loves a strong woman...

World's Finest DC and WS

Here are two of my latest pieces. They were also commission pieces. I thought it would be neat to have a side by side of two similar and very popular characters.

Mill-ing and mulling

I have had the great fortune and good sense to befriend one Jon Mills during my time at the Joe Kubert School of Art and this guy has a way with a brush that would make porn starlets blush. He is that good. What he is doing on the outside of comics is beyond me. I think it will only be a matter of time before someone gives him the break he deserves and once he's in, I swear he'll be the next Towsend or Scott Williams. If this guy can make me look good, imagine what he could do with real pros.

Swinging with Spidey

Here's another commission piece for a client. Nothing too drastic, the grand Spiderman swinging in NY. He seems to be a favorite. I get more Spiderman requests than anyone else... altho - I do have one client who seems to be into some of the more unknown heros - his commissions are always interesting... Armor, Knighthawk, Iron Maiden...

As always, comments and critiques welcome.

Gen 13 Commission

Just thought I'd post a recent commission for Gen 13... Grunge came out beefier that I was trying, but I'm still happy with the overall composition.

Gen 13 #4

Finished Gen 13 #4 and it's out now. Feel free to let me know what you think about it. Personally, the story was amazing. Gail Simone is a fantastically talented writer and her story for issue four was a sheer pleasure to draw. The editor Ben Abernathy was also really cool to work with - one of the best experiences I've had. I hope you all have as much fun reading it as I did drawing it.

Have a great day!

Welcome!

Welcome to the start of some (probably inconsistent) blogging and posting of art. These will consist of doodles (mostly) and occassionally commissions. I'm trying to get back on the ball after a short break, but having 2 kids eats up a lot of my time and they're a lot of fun BTW. I'll try to start it off with my most recent commission and go from there. You can see older commissions at deviantart.com - so I don't have to repost old stuff.

Comments welcome!
